Donna went from barely surviving to living well.
Without a major medical breakthrough, it’s estimated that almost 800,000 Australians will be living with dementia by 2058. Soon it will become the leading cause of death. But there is hope. With the right support, people like Donna can go from barely surviving, to living well with dementia.
That’s why we need your help this Easter.

Meet Donna
Dementia doesn't
discriminate
Donna was diagnosed with dementia in her early 50s. Although dementia is a lot less common in people under 65, heartbreakingly, some people as young as 35 have been diagnosed.
When the diagnosis came, Donna’s family didn’t know how to help her or how to navigate the condition. She struggled to find support and soon she had to stop work. She felt increasingly alone.
It was when someone finally referred her to Dementia Australia that Donna realised support was out there.
“It felt like a death sentence. There’s a stigma around dementia. As soon as you say you’ve been diagnosed, people don’t know how to deal with it, so they avoid you.”
- Donna, 58, lives with younger onset dementia
